When Was Cheltenham Town Football Club Founded?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Cheltenham Town Football Club was founded in 1892.

In 1935 they joined the Southern Division and became runners-up of this competition in the 1955/56 season.

In 1979/80 the leagues were re-organised so that Cheltenham joined the Midland Division of the Southern League. They were champions of this division in 1982/83 so were promoted to the Premier division which they also quickly became champions of in 1984/85. This gained them promotion to the Alliance Premier League which was renamed to the Conference.

In the late 1980s Cheltenham Town Football Club were relegated back to the Southern League where they remained for much of the 1990s. However things have been looking up for the club who have been promoted to League Two and finally League One following the play-offs in the 2005/06 season.

Cheltenham Town play their home games at the ground of Whaddon Road, which has a capacity for approximately 7,400 people.
