Aging is a natural process that starts at birth and continues for the entire span of our lives. Up to around 20 years of age, the effects of aging are in development and growth. But soon after, the effects of aging start to become visible in the skin. Aging is a natural process that can not be stopped, but good skin care can make a big difference, delaying the process and preventing numerous skin problems. Protecting yourself from the sun's ultra violet rays is extremely important. UV rays are extremely damaging, causing deep wrinkles, dry and rough skin, and more serious problems, such as benign and malignant skin tumors. Wearing protective clothing and using sunscreen are quite effective methods of protection. Smoking should be avoided, as it accelerates the normal aging process of skin, damaging the elastic fibers and collagen, destroying the skin's strength and elasticity. The repetitive facial expressions made whilst smoking also contribute to wrinkles. Washing your skin gently is also important to good skin care. Using moisturizers to help maintain the natural moisture levels for your skin is also an important aspect of skin care. Shaving is capable of causing skin irritations, particularly in the case of thin, dry or sensitive skin. Softening the hair by wetting it can help. Shaving dry skin can cause razor burn, which is why application of shaving cream or lotions and gels before shaving helps as it lubricates the skin.
