How Is Maths Used In Our Daily Life?

Math is all around us, how many cups are in a gallon, how many pints? How many teaspoons make a tablespoon, and what if you want to double a recipe, How many miles to your destination, how many quarters are in a dollar, how many quarters do I need to make $5.oo. I want to tile my floor, the squares are 12inchesX12inches how many do I need to tile my kitchen that is 12 feet X 16feet?

Math is used in almost every aspect of life from time, to pay, to work, driving, purchases and business. We use math to calculate sales tax, sales discounts, pay rates, payroll withholding and taxes, speed limits, travel time, occupancy levels, optimum performance and health issues, medical measurements, temperatures, decay issues, cooling and heating. Math is an unavoidable and constant in everyone's life daily.

If you take a lot of math, then you begin to understand how things work.  For example, bessel  functions can be used to describe every curve on the surface of a pond after you throw something into it.  If you put a cigarette in water and change the temperature, there are two temperature at which you get separate solutions -- math (and chemistry) can tell you why.  Math can give you extra insight as to how and why things function the way they do.
