Who Said "When Paris Sneezes"?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

'When Paris sneezes, all Europe catches a cold' were the words uttered by the Austrian foreign minister Prince Metternich with reference to the French Revolution and the anxiety it brought into the rest of the European states. The French Revolution of 1830 is also called the July Revolution. It witnessed the defeat of King Charles X, the last of the House of Bourbons, and the ascending to the throne of his cousin Louis-Philippe. The rebellion precipitated on 26th July by the publication of Charles X's restrictive ordinances which did not go well with the Charter of 1814. There were demonstrations which were accompanied by 3 days of fighting from 27th July-29th July.

Even today France and its capital city Paris have a pivotal role to play in Europe. Being an intellectual centre of Europe and the crux of fashion, media and entertainment world in the continent, whatever France does has repercussions in Europe. It is easily one of the most influential countries in the world.  Thus one can safely say when Paris sneezes, the entire Europe catches cold.
