No lions don't live in the jungle. They are called king of the jungle to show that they are at the top of the food chain in the Savanna

The fact that this question has been asked speaks volumes of the situation the original, once-proud king of the jungles finds himself in. In today's world, the most obvious place you would go to see a lion would be the zoo or a wildlife sanctuary.
The lion is a native of the jungle, and one of the toughest predators. But for all its toughness, it is no match for the guile and greed and recklessness of man, and over the years lions were killed by hunters as bounty. This led to the rescue missions that tried to ensure the safety of these animals and prevent them from being extinct by placing them in protected and secure habitats where they would not be victims of man's blood lust. If you go to Africa and some parts of Asia, you will still find lions in the jungle. A large swathe of these jungles have been declared protected areas to prevent poaching and wanton killing of these animals.
If you are from the West, where the lion is not a native animal, there are strong chances that the zoo and the sanctuary are the only likely places where you would ever see these magnificent creatures.

Daisy's answers is actually incorrect.
The Lions natural habitat has always been the savanna and grassland. And occasionally they may venture into the bush or forest. That's where you will find them today in Africa and some parts of Asia. Going back in history, you'll find that has always been the case.
The confusion comes from early explorers who referred to Africa as a vast jungle. Hence why the lion inherited the title; king of the jungle. However, technically Africa is made up of dense forest, not jungle.

No, lions live primarily in Southern Africa, countries like South Africa, Botswana and Kenya etc. They live in the plains and mostly feed on gazelle like Impala, Springbok and Zebra etc. They are very good hunters, particularly the females who do most of the hunting, day and night! They can weigh up to 300 kilo's for a fully grown male lion. They are called the King of the jungle as they have always been the most recognised for hunting. They have been called this because of the stigma attached to them over the years.
