Why Are Sedimentary Rocks So Called?
Answers
Sediment is the term used to describe the loose, hard material lying on top of solid rock. It is of various forms and sizes and is formed due to various factors and sources. Sediment is caused due to various natural processes like erosion, flooding, weathering etc. this sediment is deposited on the earth's surface and it consists of all types of things like skeletons, shells, things from plants and animals and such other substances.
Thus it includes any of the particulate matter and which is transported due to the flow of water and gets deposited in a layer. Sever layers get deposited on the top of one another and this process is known as sedimentation. Over many years and several natural happenings these sediments get converted into rocks they are known as sedimentary rocks. Sedimentary are named as such because they are made out of sediments and due to the process of sedimentation.
