The play Coriolanus by William Shakespeare was a tragedy that dealt with the history of the brilliant and noble Roman general Gaius Marcius Coriolanus found in the writings of Plutarch. The story of the play shows how bravely the General helps the Romans fight the invading Volscian army. How he invades their cities and fights their bravest general Aufidius. He does all of this after witnessing the mob of Rome demanding grain.
Later he returns and on his mother's entreaties joins the senate although he is reluctant to see the same. Two men plot against him Sicinius and Brutus, both of them rouse the mob against the General. Coriolanus voices his disapproval of the democratic system practiced in Rome where pigeons can peck at Eagles and is banished from Rome for his views. He travels to his enemy the Volscians under Aufidius and promises them success against the Romans. He is approved of and he begins his unbeatable march on Rome. As a last effort at persuading him to stop the Romans send him his mother, wife and child to convince him to relent. He does return to the Volscian and is tried and killed by them for high treason.
