The role of a midwife goes much beyond the responsibility of delivering babies. They generally perform the duties of providing support to pregnant women, babies, partners and families from the period of conception right till the first stage of post-natal care. They have a significant responsibility in making decisions about suitable care in pregnancy, labour and after the birth. They positively contribute to the well being of a mother and even babies in that matter and therefore, this is an extremely skilled profession.

Mid-wives need to be healthy and free from any kind of diseases. They generally belong to a family who are sensitive in nature and also who are willing to look after women who belong to any social and ethic backgrounds. The education required is basically diploma or degree level. This course provides theory as well as practical skills.
