    Fungi basically are eukaryotic organisms. They are heterotrophic and process their food externally, taking in nutrient molecules into their cells.

    Yeasts, molds and mushrooms are some well known examples of fungi. The division of biology concerned about the learning of fungi is known as mycology. Fungi usually have vital symbiotic associations with other organisms. Mycorrhizal symbiosis among plants and fungi is very important; normally more than 90% of all plant species employ in some type of mycorrhizal association with fungi and are reliant on this association for the purpose of survival.

    Fungi are used on a large scale by humans; yeasts are accountable for fermentation of beer as well as bread. Bacteria and fungi are the most important decomposers of organic matter in nearly all terrestrial ecosystems.
