    Rhetorical is a word that is related to the term rhetoric. Anything pertaining to rhetoric is known as rhetorical. Thus rhetorical is the adjective form of rhetoric. It is a term that is associated with verbal communication or artificial eloquence. It is pronounced as 'ri-tawr-i-kuh-al'. Rhetoric is the study of using language effectively and in a persuading manner. Therefore rhetorical refers to the language that is used in a very stylistic, elaborate and pretentious.

    The Latin form of this word is rhetorice or rhetorica. This word was incorporated in the English language since the medieval ages i.e. during the 15th century. The Middle English form of this word was rethorik. There are several terms connected with rhetorical such as rhetorical questions which are questions to which no answers are expected. They are just asked for the rhetoric effect.
