    Carpets were used to protect the body from cold but with the passage of time carpets are used to cover table, couch, wall or curtain of the tent. In 16th cent, fleece of sheep and the hair of the camel and goat are used for weaving of carpet but fleece of sheep is was essential component. The yarn for pile and spun are dyed by hand with conventional vegetable dyes.

    These raw materials were used in turkey, Persia and central Asia. Carpets were mostly used on walls and tables except in Royal Church; they used carpets for covering the floor. In early 13th century these carpets were used in paintings especially in Italy England, France, Netherlands and Flanders. Oriental carpets are comparatively rare.

    Oriental carpets are washed in chlorine to give durability. Traditional oriental carpets mostly used deep, rich color and intricate patterns of Persian. Most demanding patterns in traditional rugs are bright hues and conventionalized pictures of Turkey, symbolic pattern of China. Handlooms are mostly used for carpet manufacturing. Handloom consists of two horizontal beams. Silk rugs were made in 16th and 17th cent. Flat woven rugs are also called Kilms. Quality of carpets mostly depends on the raw material that is used for making carpets.
