The first president of the United Sates was George Washington often referred to as the Father of our country.
President Washington was born on February 22, 1732 in
Westmoreland County, Virginia on the family farm.
His inauguration took place on the balcony of the Federal Hall located on Wall Street in New York City, on April 30, 1789 and served until 1797. He died on his Mount Vernon Plantation on
December 14, 1799.
George Washington studied military arts and in 1754 became a Leutenant Colonel in the army and fought in the French and Indian War. In 1755 he became the aid to General Edward Braddock. While fighting in this war his coat sustained four bullet holes and two horses were shot out from under him, but he escaped any injury.
He is remembered for his dedication to the men, who served under him as Commander in Chief of the Continental Army.
For six years difficult years, they fought against the British Army, he never ate until his soldiers ate and stood in the snow without boots supporting them as they fought!
