What Do You Mean By The Term Absolute Zero?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Absolute zero is the point on the thermodynamic (absolute) temperature scale where no more heat energy remains in a system.

There is international agreement that the Celcius temperature starts at absolute zero with the value of exactly -273.15 degrees celcius. Scientists have made great advancements in acheiving temperatures even closer to absolute zero.

There should be no movement of individual molecules at absolute zero, according to kinetic theory, so any material at this temperature would be solid.

The speed at absolute zero, because of quantum-mechanical effects, is larger than zero and depends, along with energy, on the volume within which a particle is confined.

In 1970, the absolute zero state was proposed by Guillaume Amontons, who was investigating the relationship between pressure and temperature in gases.

In the laws on thermodynamics, absolute zeron can never be achieved, but it is possible to reach temperatures arbitrarily close to it through the use of cryocoolers.
