Can Windows 2000 Pro Be Installed Over Windows XP Pro?

Yes you can  install windows 2000 over windows XP but after the installation of Windows XP you have to change some settings. Actually, you have to repair windows XP boot loader .For installing Windows 2000 us the following process.

(1) Use the CD of windows 98 to boot your computer.
(2) Put your CD of windows 2000 into CD Rom.
(3) Type G:\I386\winNT.exe at the prompt. Here G is your CD Rom.
(4) Proceed with the installation process and install windows 2000 into different partition. Select that partition where windows XP is not installed.
(5) When windows installation process will be completed then allow the computer to boot in windows 2000.

Following procedure will be used for repairing windows XP Boot Loader.
Boot your computer by using windows XP CD. When promoted to setup or repair then select repair option. Now you have to enter following commands in recovery console.

(1) Fix Boot and select answer as yes.
(2) CD\
(3) ATTRIB - H NTLDR
(4) ATTRIB - $ NTLDR
(5) ATTRIB - R NTLDR
(6) ATTRIB - H NTDETECT.COM
(7) ATTRIB - S NTDETECT.COM
(8) ATTRIB - R NTDETECT.COM
(9) copy G:\i386\NTLDRC:\
(10) copy G:\i386\NTDETECT.COM:\ Where G is representing your CD Rom.
