    Why Does My Car Engine Rev Up In Neutral & Sound As Though It Wants To Turn Over & Switch On?

    My car is sitting in neutral but i can hear the engine reving up. Why? It sounds as though someone is turning the key slightly to start the engine

    If your using your air, a big stereo or anything that draws power from your battery your alternator will kick in to charge your battery. this will cause the engine to rev up a little. You will hear a little noise from the engine. I hope that's all it is .

    I switched off the engine & let it sit for several hours, then switched it on, stayed in neutral but I could still hear the engine sounding as though it was ready to start, then it stops and 10 seconds later to repeats the process.
