    Chrysanthemum is the name of a flower. They belong to a genus of 30 species of flowering plants by the same name i.e. chrysanthemum. They are perennially flowering in nature. It is nicknamed as "mums" by florists. It gets its name from the Greek language and it means "gold flower". But today it comes in all colours. It is a native flower of Asia and northeastern Europe. To be more accurate it is flower that originated in China or Japan. They come in a diversity of shapes and sizes like spiders, spoons, buttons and blooms. Japan has a national festival dedicated to this flower and it can be seen on the Japanese flag and imperial weapons. It is the national symbol of Japan and is considered as a symbol of long life.

    This flower has been known to mankind since 5000 BC in a small yellow form. There are a lot of stories and superstitions related to this flower. The Chinese believe that it is an indication of happiness and life of ease. It symbolizes the autumn season. In some other countries it is a symbol of purity but there are also countries like Malta where this flower is considered unlucky and are not grown inside the house. It is associated with funerals. This plant has lot of medicinal uses apart from its ornamental value. In some places it is also used to prepare a sweet drink.
