What Is Binary And Hexadecimal.

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Binary and hexadecimal are two number systems used in computer science and advanced mathematics.

Binary is a base two number system. Its numeric values are represented by two symbols; 0 and 1. It is primarily used for the implementation of electronic circuits. 1 denotes an "ON" state while 0 represents the "OFF" state.

Hexadecimal, also known as hex, is a base 16 number system. It is represented by 16 symbols.  The first 10 symbols are digits 0 to 9. The last 6 symbols are capital alphabets A to F.

Hexadecimal numbers are mainly used in computer technology to represent a byte. Hexadecimal notations are also used in web pages and graphics software to specify colors. Each colour is represented by a different hexadecimal number.

It is possible to convert both binary and hexadecimal numbers to the decimal system. Decimal is a base 10 number system. This is the same number system consisting of 10 digits that we are familiar with.  The method by which this is possible is called base conversion.

The simple mathematics operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division can be applied to both the number systems.
