               The Double Wager is the second book written by Mary Balogh. It was published in the year 1985, the same year "A Masked Deception" was published. She has written a number of books and novels which have been appreciated all over the world. She has written more than 20 novellas. She has received loads of accolades for her immense talent of delivering short stories. Romantic Times Career Achievement Award for Regency Short Stories was awarded to her brilliant performance in the year 1993. Before writing novels she was working as principal for a school.

               In this book, Henrietta Tallant who is tomboyish in nature wagers her most loved and best horse in order to entice the Duke of Eversliegh named Marius Devron so that she can propose marriage in six weeks. But she has no idea about the fact that the duke has also has put up a wager that he would decide who will be his bride so that he can marry her in a month.
