Can You Explain Working And Functions Of Arithmetical And Logical Operations ?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The unit performs different arithmetical and logical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and logical comparison on numerical data in the binary system as directed by the control unit and transfers the result to the control unit. It can also compare alphabetic information, such as names or determines whether one name is the same as or different from another

The flow of instructions, data and results is governed by the control unit which states the various logic gates, feeds the numerical data and provides the clock pulse(heart of the computer) that regulates the speed of all the operations instructions received from input unit are stored in one part of the memory, while data is store in another part.

Te control unit generates signals in accordance with the program the control input provides a desired sequence of arithmetic operation and retrieves the numerical data from the memory. The ALU operates on them according to the control input. The result appears at the out put when instructed by the control unit
