The world of medicine and treatment is as vast and intriguing as the universe itself. There are a number of treatments for body ailments that have been conceived and practiced over the years. Amazingly, each of the diverse cultures of the world has had its fair share in contribution. Some of the treatments that have their roots in Asia include the intriguing world of Indian Ayurveda and Chinese Acupuncture. The occidental and the oriental treatments have always fascinated people of both cultures. Today, people are willing to give these ancient sciences a try, instead of surgery and heavy drugs.

Acupuncture is the ancient Chinese art of inserting needles into the skin, to heal. This art, interestingly, was once considered quackery. Today, it is credited with effectively treating almost any health complaint. The science has received renewed interest lately and correctly so. The therapy involves establishing connectivity to the essential connective tissues in the body. The needles are inserted into the skin and turned. When turned, the connective tissues are wrapped around the needle tips. As the needles twist, the connective tissues stretch and connect to the muscles and bones. The stretching of the connective tissues also initiates active response in the cells, leading to the desired chemical changes in the brain.

The Chinese believe in the universe being home to positive and negative energies. This concept is applied to the body too. The science is focused on creating a balance of the energies or life forces that circulate in the body via channels called meridians.
