Black Mold Has Invaded Stored Clothing Which Got Wet. It Is Spreading Fast. Odor Is Horrible. Can I Salvage The Clothes? What Can I Put In Each Box Of Clean Clothes To Prevent This From Happening? Need Help Now!! Thanks

The clothes were stored in a trailer in boxes and under tarps. Water got in. Black mold has taken over. I've had to toss tons of clothes. I'm trying to salvage some. I've washed them in bleach, also Melaleuca detergent but spots still remain and the odor is NOT disappearing. Should I toss these also? When washed, many fell apart..seams eaten alive!! What can I put in boxes of good clothes to prevent this from happening. No experts here seem to know! I can't afford Air conditioned storage. HELP QUICKLY!! Moldy in Florida Land of hurricanes.

I have found nothing that will take ALL the black mold out of material once it has become embedded into the fabric.
In the future, when storing such items, you can use large plastic storage containers with lids. Also put a product called (Damp Rid) into each container to help control the moisture which causes the mildew process.
Follow the directions on the Damp Rid container. You will have to change it out for fresh as directed on the box.
Sorry your clothes can't be salvaged.

      Depends on the material.
If you really want to save the clothing and they are machine washable, you can wash them in hot water and add a little PineSol. For whites just add bleach.
If they are delicates, I would just dispose of the clothing.

Thank you Sos2djd... you responded swiftly and I appreciate that very much. Where I am doing the laundry only has cold water.. so that might be part of the answer, even though I put them on "soak". I'll try the PineSol..and I did use bleach on some.
This has been a real "pain" especially with elec. going sky high here. Have a 11 1/2% increase in elec. on the way in Fla.
Know any tricks for storing them with "something" that will keep the humidity out?
      Again.. thanks...!!!

Any additional recommendations concerning my "moldy clothes"( Black mold ) problem will be greatly appreciated.  I also need to know if anyone has an idea as to what to put inside of each box of clothes to keep humidity out, so that this does not happen again.  I'm going to go try the PineSol method right now... Will check back.  Thanks   Jackie__oh!!
