Why Has Heather Mills Been Villified?

Paul McCartney is a bit like your most interesting uncle.  You love him to bits.  You know he had a wild past, but he's always polite when he comes to visit, and anyway, he still looks a lot like the boy next door...

People with longer memories well recall when McCartney's first wife, Linda, was pilloried in the press.  Linda was too ugly/American/rich.  That was before she became Saint Linda, mother of Paul's kids, patron of vulnerable animals, and then died tragically early from a nasty disease that might get any of us, too.

Heather is too pretty, a bit odd without a leg and a reconstructed pelvis.  Her past, especially her sexual past, is not squeaky clean (not that Sir Paul hasn't had an adventurous life, too).  

Heather broke our favourite uncle's heart, which has particularly upset Uncle's children by his first marriage.  Children who never exactly liked step-mum (they aren't much younger than her), children who have strong links with the media...

Worse, she wants $72 million (less than 10% of Paul's fortune) in a divorce settlement.  Given how rich he is, how much more she could get, and the fact that her step-children hate her and might not want her child with Sir Paul to get anything, is that excess greed or not?
