Is Michael Moore A Member Of The NRA?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

You may be surprised to learn that Michael Moore IS a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) as he is an extremely vocal activist against gun crime, amongst other campaigns.

He has made a number of controversial movies on a variety of political topics. These include, 'Bowling for Columbine' in 2002. It probed the gun culture of the US following the Columbine High School massacre that occurred on Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School in Colorado. The massacre was carried out by two teenage students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, who went on a shooting rampage, killing 12 fellow students and a teacher. They also wounded 24 others before committing suicide.

It was at the end of this movie when Michael Moore secures an interview with NRA president Charlton Heston by describing himself, truthfully, as an NRA member.

The NRA was originally created in 1871 to 'promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis'. They continue to maintain that this is their main goal today and are 'the premier firearms education organization in the world'. They are also strongly against any attempt to remove an American's constitutional 'right to bear arms'.
