Can I Take A Part Time Job While Looking For Full Time And Keep My Unemployment Benefits In The State Of Illinois?

I am in NC and the way it works here is, you continue to draw unemployment until you exhaust all your money. If you are working any, you must claim how much you made that week, if you made more than the weekly earnings allowed then you will get $1 less for every $1 over. For example, say you made $125 this week, your weekly unemployment benefit is $200, but your weekly earnings allowed is $50, since you earned over $50 you will subtract the amount you earned from the amount you normally receive, in this case $200-$125, which means instead of your check from unemployment being $200, it will only be $75. The point is you still make the same amount that week from your job and your unemployment $125+$75=$200. However, if you made over what your weekly benefit is ($200), then you will not draw anything from unemployment. If you made $300 for the week, your unemployment check will be $0.

Furthermore, you can continue to draw unemployment until your benefits run out, but once you receive a permanent full-time job, you must let the Unemployment Office know so that they can put a hold on your benefits, so if you become unemployed again, you will just continue in your same benefit year, unless it ended.

Hope that helps. I know this stuff gets really confusing, I just know so much about it because I have had several different instances where I have drawn unemployment.
