    The Da Vinci Code is the title of a 2006 feature film which has been shot based on the bestselling novel by the same name whose author is Dan Brown. After a preview of this acclaimed film at the opening night on May 17 2006 of the Cannes Film Festival, it went on to release in several countries on the date May 18, 2006 while its opening show was on May 19, 2006 in the United States.

    There are quite a few controversial Christian historical interpretations observed in the book as well as the movie. As a result both have been subject to much criticism from the Roman Catholic Church in addition to many Christians in general.

    The Da Vinci Code has the distinction of having the second largest opening weekend earnings and being the second top grossing movie in the year 2006 globally.
