A restricted service license, which is also known as RSL is basically a license that is given to various radio stations and television stations. However, this licence is valid for only broadcasting units within United Kingdom only.

Short-term RSLs are typically broadcast on low-power (1/25W) FM or (1w) AM and can remain for an utmost of 28 successive days and can only be practical for twice in twelve months. This is generally used for events such as sporting events, religious festivals, student radio, hospital radio or to test run a station who in the end is trying to get a permanent license.

In terms of television it refers to a license that covers a really small area. This license last for around four years.
