How Much Energy Is There In The Sunflower Seed?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

One cup of whole sunflower seed (about 46 gm) contains 262 calories. Each calorie contains 4.185 J of energy under the SI unit of Energy. So a cup of sunflower contains about 1096.47 J (or joules) of energy. A calorie is also defined as the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 gm of water by 1 degree Celsius and a kcal is the energy required to raise the temperature of a kilogram of water by 1 degree Celsius.

A sunflower seed is much more than just that, and contains Vitamin E, Vitamin B1 (thiamin), manganese, magnesium, copper, tryptophan, selenium, phosphorus, Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) and folate amongst other nutrients. Because of its selenium content they are known to be anti cancerous, help bones with magnesium, reduce cholesterol and contain a whole lot of other health benefits.
