Who Are The Indigo Girls?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Indigo Girls are an American rock-folk band from Atlanta, Georgia.  They got their start alongside bands like REM and the B52s.

The Indigo Girls are Amy Ray and Emily Salliers. They both attended Emery University, where they began playing together as the Indigo Girls (although they knew each other since high school). Although they have both identified themselves as lesbian (or gay), they have never been partners.

In 1988, they signed with Epic and released their first album 'Indigo Girls' which had a version of Land of Canaan on it and got to number twenty-two in the album chart.  So far, they have released fifteen albums, with the most recent entitled Despite Our Differences.

The Indigo Girls have both performed as Jesus and Mary Madelene in professional productions of Jesus Christ Superstar and appeared alongside their music in the film Boys on the Side.

The girls are currently touring and will be in Glasgow, Scotland in late February 2007.
