    George Abbott was one of Broadways' most successful showmen. He wrote, produced, and directed some of Broadway's most memorable shows such as, "Damned Yankee", "The Pajama Game", and "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum". He was born on June 25, 1887and passed away on January 31, 1995. During his career, he won a Pulitzer Prize and five Tony Awards. Before writing and directing Broadway musicals, George Abbott also acted and was part of a total of 120 productions. His talents in acting, writing, and directing got the attention of thousands of people and he eventually became known as "Mr. Broadway".
    Right before his death in 1995, he was awarded an honor for his more than seventy year dedication to the development and production of the American theater. He began working on Broadway in 1911 and continued to work on Broadway until his death in early 1995. Anyone who is on Broadway will know George Abbott.
