During A Year Lease (exp 2/28/09) In Kansas City Kansas, Can Rent Be Raised By Landlord?

The lease language does not contain any provisions/wording regarding increases DURING the term of the lease. Curiously, this request comes after several repair requests were made and a report made to local government (regarding mold/urine smells etc.) is yielding an inspection?

From my understanding a lease is just like a contract between owner and renter. The rent can't be raised during that time. But it sounds like the owner is angry at the fact that you reported him/her to housing officials on the conditions of the unit. They are probably trying to get you to vacate the premises and therefore break your lease, making you responsible in paying a penalty of some sort. Since they can't legaly kick you out for making repair requests they are looking for other ways, legal or illegal,to get you to move. I hope this helps you out.

Thank you, I agree with your thoughts....especially the "lease break" concept...that has been suggested by others also.
