- Discontinue any other conversation or activity, before picking up the receiver.
- Speak clearly, pleasantly  and distinctly.

- When transferring a call, explain to the caller that you are doing so.

Make your conversation very brief because the other person may not be in a position to excuse you. If you are making a business call then make it as brief as you can.

Do not misbehave on telephone and if you have dialed a wrong number then say sorry. If you are dialing and someone is not receiving then it is preferable according to etiquette to disconnect and try later on.
