The Sanida mountains are situated in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties,, which is very close to the northeast of the city of Albuquerque in New Mexico in the south-western United States. The mountainous ranges spread throughout the Cibola National Forest. They are protected by the Sandia Mountain Wilderness.the gtihest point these mountain ranges is Sandia Crest, which is approximately 10,678 ft (3,255 m) and the South Sandia Peak is approximately 9,702 ft (2,957 m).

The word Sandia in Spanish means watermelon. And most of the locals then to believe that the name associates with the mountain itself, since it has a very reddish colour during the time of the sunset and also if it is seen from the west end then the mountain gives a fell of thin green conifers, which looks alike to the "rind" of the watermelon.
