How Do You String A Simple Archery Bow?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Archery bows traditionally used cat gut as material for the strings of the bows. The bows could be short bows or long bows depending on the size and purpose. The material of the bows could be wood, bamboo, metal etc. Part of the tension that the string developed, and hence its strength; was because of the shape and pressure pressing on it from the bow. In order to string a simple archery bow (most these days are made of composite material) you will have to procure the type of string the manufacturer recommends or supplies. You will have to firmly attach one end of the string to the slot on one end of the bow. You may have to fasten it with a secure knot. With the help of another person, attach the string to the other end after bending the bow sufficiently.

Previous answer is what kinds of string to use.   Once you have the proper string, attach one end to the staff, and put that end by your right foot.  Step over the staff with your left foot so the bow is hooked around your right ankle, the bow staff is in your left hand, and the other end of the bow string is in your right hand.  Bend the bow around your body using the leverage of your legs to help bend the bow into place, and slip the string over the other end of the bow.   Relax.

When you are finished, you should have to step out of your stringed bow with you left foot.
