How Do You Determine The UPS Power Output Needed For You System?

I can easily calculate the total power consumption of my system, but, how does that translate into the UPS power output needed. Is there a safety factor needed, such as multiplying by 1.2, 1.5, 2.0, etc.? Lee trick

    Hi,

There aren't any complications in calculating UPS output requirement according to your PC consumption.

Say, your PC and monitor needs maximum 400 watts in total then you can use with it an UPS that gives you 400 watts.

Please note that PC wattage requirement doesn't fluctuate a lot (except in standby or hibernate mode when less energy is consumed).

You can read the back of your PC power supply its power consumption in watts or Amperes.

How long you want the UPS to stay on does not depend on how much Wattage it can give but it depends on the size of the battery.

Despite that, please note it is always recommended to keep a generous safety margin.
