What Is A Fairy Bluebird?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A fairy bluebird is one of the rarest species of rainforest bird. It survives just, in the Khao Yai National Park in Thailand, although it was once widespread all over south east Asia. The population of fairy bluebirds has been reduced because of loss of its habitat and it became extinct in some areas in the 1980s.

The fairy bluebird likes to live in the evergreen hill forests in the park, preferring areas that are near running, fresh water. It spends most of its time high in the tree canopy, occasionally flying down to drink the water or have a bath. It feeds mainly on nectar from the many large and beautiful flowers in the rainforest but it will also get sugars from fruit when it needs to.

Breeding pairs of fairy bluebirds usually nest in small trees in dense, gloomy parts of the forest and females lay two eggs in moss covered nests of twigs and roots.
