King James had nothing to do with the actual translation of that version. He commissioned the translation in 1611. The Geneva Bible. Translated 50 years earlier, was the favored Bible at that time and was used by the puritans. It took 40 years before the King James was accepted. The KJV is really more of a revision of other versions than it is a translation. It was revised shortly after it came out. The KJV that most of us have is nothing like the earlier versions of the KJV.

Sense the translation of the KJV we have manuscripts that are up to 1000 years older than the ones they had. We have papyrus fragments and portions of scrolls, versions and translations dating from the 2nd to the 15th century.

The King James version was commissioned because the English language had changed so much that a need was felt for an updated version.
In the 1500's William Tyndale was strangled in public and his body burned because he created a better English translation.

I certainly do, but I try not to take them too seriously.
