What Is The Difference Between Closed And Short Circuit?

Answer Question

A closed circuit could be just a simple circuit with the switch closed and the circuit performing as designed or it could be a closed-circuit TV loop where a signal is transmitted to just a few sets such as in a class room.
A short circuit is a malfunction in a designed circuit which means that the current does not travel the complete route thru the circuit.  For example, if a lamp is plugged in and there are bare wires one fooot from the outlet, the current would just flow thru the bare wires at the short, and the current would never reach and flow thru the light bulb.  It is taking the path of least resistance and flowing thru the "shortened" circuit which will cause high amperage to flow since the resistance is minimal, and the protective fuse or breaker will trip.
