Jo Beverley is one of those writers who create great Regency and this story proves that she could be that best writer. However, the sensual point in this story is that there are references related to the female leads, sexual abusive relation, that you may find disconcerting.
Serena Riverton is the leading character of the story, who feels free after her husband's death. She had a very miserable life with her husband, who used to abuse her and keep her only as a sex object. She is happy that she received freedom, but her brother plans a forced marriage for her, as he did before.
Fleeing, she is supported by Francis, Lord Middlethrope. They both get attracted to each other sexually and this encounter leaves her pregnant, however, she is not keen to marry as before. Francis is committed to marry a sweet lady. Soon they get married to each other and try hard to make something out of their lives.
