The very first compass of the world was made in China. This happened during the Qin Dynasty and the compass was made with Lodestone which is an iron oxide based mineral. Researchers are of the view that the Olmec in Mesoamerica might be the actual makers of the compass even before 1000 BC because the artifacts were found in these areas. This makes the Olmecs the makers of the compass even before the Chinese.
