In the UK, Hen Nights are often perceived as a little bit raucous, often including a gaggle of scantily-clad drunk women displaying a group "theme" (normally to attract drooling males), such as Playboy Bunnies/StTrinian's/Devils/Cheerleaders. The bride-to-be is often dressed up with an "L" plate on her back and perhaps a token "veil" to signify her pending marraige.

Typical venues for the standard Hen Night include gay bars and cheesy nightclubs. Trips abroad can be taken as an alternative, including a weekend in Ibiza or the Costa Del Sol.

Activites during the Hen Night can vary; some brides may have a stripper appear for them to drool over (or else feel very embarrassed about, as he is gyrating his manhood in her face). Mostly the Hen Night will involve copious amounts of booze and debauchery - this event is all about having one last night of freedom (and therefore making a complete idiot of oneself is completely acceptable).

More reserved (or should I say classy?) brides-to-be might arrange a more sedate Hen Night or weekend away. Such events can include a slap-up meal at a top restaurant, with drinks at a snooty wine bar afterwards; a day at the races followed by a night in a posh hotel; or a weekend at a Spa (with tons of facials, massages and cocktail-sipping).

If you are indeed the Hen, and are wondering what on earth to do for this momentous occasion, try to imagine your idea of fun. For many women this is nothing short of getting blind drunk on shots of tequila and having an almost-naked man parade around you for 20 minutes...but of course if this isn't your cup of tea there are literally tons of ideas to inspire your decision. If you like horse riding, for example you could whisk all your best buddies away to a livery for a couple of days, for cantering + champagne frolics.

Whatever your tastes, there are plenty of companies out there to help you plan the perfect Hen celebration.
