These networks can be located in a room, building, city and even computers can be connected outside country's boundaries. The main purpose of a computer network is to enable communication among people. They are used to transfer Data either in text form like Emails and sending documents electronically as we send attachments. Internet is the biggest and most famous example of computer network.

Types of networks are bases how and where computers are linked to each other. However following are the most widely known types of computer networks.

Local Area Network (LAN)
This term is used for a group of linked computers that are based in a single room or with in a building. A simple example of this would be connected computer in any cyber café.

Metropolitan-Area Networks (MAN)
This type represents the connected group of computers in a building or in different cities. Its example could be an office with two or three floors or having branches in different or same city.

Wide Area Network (WAN)
This type of networks comes into form when computers from different countries are connected to each other. It's like a Multinational company that wants electronic communication among all its branches located in many countries.
