What Do Cats See?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Cats can see objects better at night. The reason why cats can see better in the night is because they have a far superior sense of vision at night than they have in the daytime. Cats have an inferior sense of vision in daylight. Cats, dogs and many other species of animals have a tapetum lucidum, which reflects additional light to the retina of the eyes of the animal and helps it to see better when the light is dim.

However, its net visual acuity is decreased, which is why it gets detracted in broad daylight. In the daytime, the slit-like irises of the eyes of a cat close very narrowly over its eyes, which reduce the amount of light on the cat's retina. The retinas of the eyes of a cat are highly sensitive, and improve the depth of its field of view. While the field of view of a cat is estimated to be about 200 degrees, it is approximately 180 degrees in case of human beings.
