There are several things that should be sorted out before bringing a new pet home. One of these things is to make sure there is a space in the house where the new pet will be safe and away from any noises and other animals. It is always overwhelming for a new pet, especially a young one, being taken away from its mother and litter mates and being brought into a strange environment. This is why it is essential that you allow them plenty of peace and quiet in their own space for the first couple of days they are with you.

You also need to introduce new pets slowly to existing ones. You need to monitor them carefully and don't under any circumstances leave them alone together before they have become good friends. Existing pets can occasionally become jealous so a supervised introduction is always advised.

Overall, as long as you give them plenty of space and a quiet area to themselves, they should quickly recover from the initial shock of being moved, and start to become curious about their new surroundings.

It is best to allow the pets to smell each other thru closed doors. Getting used to each others scent. Its easiest if you set up a food dish, water dish, and litter box in the bathroom (if you are working with a cat of course) and keep him or her in there. I know it sounds cruel, but it does work and it really is the best way that i know of.

Let him or her out an hour here, and an hour there, and put the other animal(s) in. That way he or she can investigate their surroundings.... All animals are different.

When I brought a new kitty home, it took us about 4 days total introducing him to his older brother. They became such close brothers, until the oldest had to be put down. :(

petrie misses his older brother still
