Where Is Ground Zero?

Ground Zero basically is the site on the earth where an explosion occurs. The expression has often been referred to nuclear explosions; it is also attributed to earthquakes, epidemic and other calamities to mark the point where mainly damage or devastation was caused. The damage slowly reduces with distance from this point.

The term is also used to illustrate the force point of any exploding bomb. In case of the bomb which detonates above the land, the term then refers to the point on the earth straight below the bomb at the instant of detonation.

In relation to a precise event, the expression was first used to refer to the destruction which was caused by the atom bombs that hit Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The September 2001 bombing sites were also referred to as ground zero positions.
