What Is The Difference Between DVD-R/-RW And DVD+R/+RW?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

DVD-R/-RW and DVD+R/+RW are basically different writeable formats and determine how one records on the DVD. While the DVD-R and DVD+R formats can be used only once the DVD-RW and DVD+RW formats can be used again (up to 1000 rewrites). DVD-R is highly compatible and can be used with DVD players as well as DVD-ROM drives and along with DVD-RW is an authorized format of the DVD Forum, a body comprising various companies, formed to maintain standards in the DVD industry.

The DVD+R/+RW discs are similar in design and usage to the DVD-R/-RW discs (both formats use 4.7 GB discs) though the latter cost less and their market penetration at present is much more than the former. However the DVD+R/+RW technology is seen to be one which would be compatible with future innovations as well as offering extra functions like recording parts of a disc on TV and also on the PC, background formatting and better quality editing.
