Why Does Canada's Province Newfoundland Have The Capital St.John's?

The origin of the Name of Newfoundland's capital is not known for certain. However this name was first used in a Portuguese map. In this map the city was known as Rio De San Jogem. It is also said that an Italian discoverer Giovanni Caboto named this city as St. John.
