What Is Wrong With My Car If The Mechanic Says The Battery Is Dead?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Have you ever seen those old movies where the cars had these levers at the front that had to be spun to crank up the engine? Well the battery and starter motor in a vehicle replaced the use of the manual crank by allowing the user to cycle the engine and avoid the hassle of doing it manually. Once the car was running a dynamo or alternator connected to the engine would charge up the battery. Now if is a vehicle is not used for a long period of time the battery gradually drains itself. The process may be far quicker if there are problems with the earthing or insulation of the wiring connected to the battery. Since the power in the battery is lost it has to be recharged before it can be used.
