Dermal masses can be tumors (benign or malignant), cysts, abscesses, or scar tissue.  All new lumps need to be examined by a veterinarian.  A fine needle aspirate needs to be performed.  This allows us to examine cells under the microscope and determine the type of growth.  Mass removal is the gold standard for diagnosis and is often recommended even if the mass is benign.  Removing a mass when it is small is much easier than waiting until it is bigger and becomes a problem.  A mass in the "armpit" area can lead to problems with mobility and will likely need removal in the future.

Also, she has been scratching her ear on the same side and holds it down a lot like it's bothering her. Could this have anything to do with the "tuor?"

It could be a cyst, but you need to have it looked at to make sure. I hope this helps, good luck to you.
