How Do You Care For A Baby Squirrel?

If you have found a baby squirrel first you should always try to find its mother and unite them. In situations where you are unable to do it and you are sure that it needs your help take it home and keep it in a small box or containers with soft fabric at the bottom. Then wear gloves and check the squirrel for injuries and parasites. Take them to a veterinary if required. Keep the baby warm with the help of a heating pad or electric blanket.

Then get the baby hydrated. Dehydration can be fatal and lead to death. This can be done by administering Pedialyte or homemade formulas to it with the help of various feeding tools available in the market for animals. Find a rehabilitation centre for squirrels because it is illegal to keep wildlife with you for more than 48 hours. This can be done by contacting your help lines, vets, pet centers, humane societies etc.

You can go to your local pet store and buy kitty formula. This is the closest your going to get to the squirrels mothers milk. After the squirrel is weened off that, in order to keep it alive, it is very impotant that you give it a mixture of different types of food to maintain life, for example, fruit, nuts, vegatables....and sweets, they need sugar to live. I used to give my squirrel oreo cookies and he loved them. They make great pets....but they require a lot of attention, have fun!
