The United Nations or the UN is a newly adopted form of the United Nations Organization that substituted the League of Nations after the Second World War. The name 'United Nations' was given by the President of the United States President, Franklin D. Roosevelt. The term was first publicized in the "Declaration by United Nations" on the 1st, January, 1942. This was the time when, during the Second World War ,the representatives of twenty six nations pledged their governments to fight collectively against the destructive Axis Powers.

The United Nations Organization operates via its special bodies like the Secretariat and the International Court of Justice and its special agencies which we are more familiar with, like the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund and the United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organization. The main aim of the UNO is to ensure world peace and take all possible steps to gain the support of member nations to address issues that could have disastrous consequences. It strives as a whole to address world issues like population explosion, illiteracy and poverty. It tries to achieve equal opportunities to all the people of the world and make the basics; food, shelter and clothing, available to all. "To encourage international cooperation and to achieve peace and security", remains its motto.
